The Chinese government said it would launch a manned space laboratory within the next ten years. The move is believed will make the country increasingly narrowing the gap with the United States and Russia as a superpower that could reach the moon.

Xinhua quoted an official as saying the field of space laboratory space will be launched before the year 2016 to test techniques and equipment. Not yet clear if the lab will be manned for the long term.

China’s space station program will use technology already available, such as spacecraft Shenzhou spacecraft and the Long March 2F rocket launcher. Xinhua did not provide details about the size of the lab.

Manned space laboratory will introduce science, technology advancement and innovation of our country, increase the overall national strength and makes an important contribution to enhance national prestige.
The initiative was apparently not able size of the international space station operated jointly by Russia, the U.S. and other countries. But, Chinese laboratory is the latest sign of growing technological abilities space country.

China launched a moon orbiter is the second this month. The country has also managed to send astronauts to walk in space at 2008. Previously only the U.S. and Russia are capable of doing that.

China plans an unmanned landing on the moon and the moon will be operating the vehicle explorers in 2012. The country also aims to collect samples of rock and soil on the moon around the year 2017. The country’s scientists have been discussing the possibility of sending humans to the moon after 2020.

China competes with Japan and India in the field of outer space, but the plan is facing international scrutiny. Beijing has stated that the exploration of outer aims to peace.

Fear of outer space arms race between the U.S. and other countries to increase after China’s successful test to destroy obsolete weather satellite with a missile from the ground in January 2007.
